First Reconciliation and First Communion
Reconciliation is an experience of the gift of God’s boundless mercy. It is the healing sacrament of prayer, forgiveness and celebration. First Reconciliation at Church of the Resurrection begins when children are in 2nd grade and requires a combination of home and parish participation. At baptism, we learn that parents are the primary teachers of faith for their children. Parents continue in this role by participating in child/parent learning centers and imparting the faith to their children. As a parish, we will provide learning materials for home and Faith Formation classes on Wednesdays. Children must register for Sacrament Prep and Faith Formation classes. First Reconciliation usually takes place at our parish penance service during Advent.First Communion Information
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:26-27 Preparation for First Communion begins after children have received the sacrament of reconciliation. Children will participate in parent/child centers, complete family-led faith materials, and attend Faith Formation classes on Wednesdays or attend Rochester Catholic Schools. Throughout the year, we encourage families to engage in parish service projects, Stations of the Cross, Lenten activities, prayer, adoration and learning centers for the entire family. First Communion takes place during the Easter season. If your child is older than second grade and you would like them to begin their preparation, contact Stacey Dorsey
